  1. Entry
The elegance of this foyer seems out of place so far from civilized lands. Beautiful paintings and tapestries cover the walls.
Fesoon, the butler, is here: "Good evening. Welcome to the Grand Ball, I hope you enjoy your stay.
    1. Excuse me, but where might I find the mayor?
I believe you can find the Mayor with his guests in the ballroom to my left.
    1. Ballroom, huh. What's the occasion?
The Grand Ball is to honor the Mayor's new trade agreement recently enacted with Corm Orp. Quite important, you know.
    2. And who are you, sir?
I am Fesoon, the butler for this residence. I care for the guests of the mayor.
    1. Oh, I see. Thanks.
    3. Thank you. Goodbye.

  2. Ballroom
Carved mahogany gleams in candlelight, illuminating the beautiful ballroom before you.
"I thought I might have the ceremony at the Cry of Joy."
"Oh, but you're a Winter. Those oranges would bring out the worst of your complexion. The Cyricists with their grays and blacks are a much better choice."
"But their music is horrid! Who wants to march down the isle to drums and symbols."
"The sacrifices we make for fashion."
Priscilla: "After all these weeks, the baboon threatens to throw me out!"
Sanha: "You knew it going in. Likes the ladies."
Priscilla: "Yes, but the pompous ass tells me to 'find new lodgings' like a cheap whore."
Sanha: "Sorry about that. By the way, does this mean he's shopping around?"
Priscilla: "Sanha! Haven't you been listening at all?"
Baob: "Go on, ask her to dance."
Reskin: "I can't. Her very beauty causes me to wilt, like a flower in the brilliant daylight."
Baob: "Heh. Great analogy. Fine, stay."

  3. Study
A huge fireplace warms this study. Hunting trophies are prominently displayed, arranged in ferocious poses.
Menos: "On the sixth day, we took down a feral Bugbear. Unfortunately, its carcas was torn to shreds by our dogs."
    Philtrim: "You don't say."
Menos: "Ah, but I do! The seventh day we came across a red dragon, chasing a pack of wild bears."
    Philtrim: "No."
Menos: "Yes! Screwing up my courage, I let loose a mighty arrow. It struck the dragon in the eye and scared him off."
Philtrim: "Too bad. Another trophy gone."
Menos: "Very frustrating. We had to settle for one of the bears the dragon was chasing."
Philtrim: "Another truly fascinating story. Wish I had been there."
Menos will greet the party: Hail friend! Hope you are enjoying this little get together. Now let me remember, you're the merchant from Baldur's Gate?
    1. Yes. Merchant. Right.
    2. Actually, I've been sent to investigate possible necromancy activity and Zhentarim involvement in this area.
Ho, ho! You Baldur's Gate citizens sure do have a sharp tongue. Settle down, enjoy the wine. Hmm. Where did that bottle go. Perhaps you could be a good chap and fetch another from the wine cellar.
    1. The wine cellar?
You'll find the stairs in the kitchen to the west. I had some contractors renovate a few months ago. Took far too long, but it was virtually free. Dust everywhere, though.
    2. No, really. I'm quite sure there are Zhentarim around.
Oh, you'll find no Zhent in this town. No sir!
    3. (BAERNSPEAK=1) I spoke with Baern. He says that the militia has been cut back to dangerous levels. sl2_menos_con1
Well, some cutbacks had to be made. Mershil, my advisor, clearly showed how we could save money and boost trade by simply cutting taxes.
    1. Who is this Mershil?
Mershil? He's around here somewhere. Hope he's not in the wine cellar again. I caught him there just last night.
    1. I see. Perhaps I shall find him for you.
    4. I overheard a woman named Priscilla speaking of you. She didn't seem too happy.
A fine looking woman. Not daring enough for the likes of me, if you understand my meaning. Sanha, though, is a possibility. If only the two of them could be convinced . . .
Anera: Both of them? Are you sure you're man enough?
Menos: Certainly, m'lady. And if you'd like to make that three . . .
    1. I'm afraid I understand all to well.
    2. Say no more. Nudge, nudge. Wink, wink.
    5. (DONNELSPEAK=1) I spoke with Donnel. He seems quite unhappy with the way things are going in this town. sl2_menos_con1
Well, the farmers are an unruly bunch. Mershil keeps suggesting I should raise the land tax again. Perhaps I will. This house could use another coat of paint.
    1. I think you've made your position quite clear.
    6. (letter from Mershil in inventory) I've found an interesting letter that you might wish to see. sl2_baern_con2
What? There must be a mistake. A forgery. Yes, definately forged.
    1. You live in a world all your own apparently. 7. Goodbye.

  4. Dining Room
A single large table stands in the center of this room, evidence that huge feasts are occasionally held here.

  5. Servant Quarters
Sparse decorations and simple but tidy beds suggest that these are servants' quarters.

  6. Servant Quarters
Although this room is simple, a few homey touches suggest that this is the women servants' quarters.

  7. Kitchen
Cutlery and pots hang from the ceiling and the smell of baking wafts through this kitchen.
Cook: Yer dinner will be served in a bit. Why don't you join the other guests and enjoy the wine?
    1. I'm looking for the wine cellar.
Lookin' for a bit of the bubbly, eh? Well, it's right down these stairs behind me.
    2. I just can't wait for your tasty treats.
You'll wait like the rest of them. Get going, now!

  8. Storage
The walls are stacked with grains, dried fruit, and other foodstuffs.

  9. Upper Hall

  10. Storage
Paintings, statues, and other artwork appear to be stored away in this room.
The door to this room is locked. The statue that Lady Leronis requested is in this room.

  11. Library
Books line the walls of this room. They appear to be mostly for show, as nothing is out of place and no books are laying about.
DC15 Spot check and FOUNDSCROLL=0: Tucked away in one of the bookshelves is a worn scroll of some interest
A scroll of Summon Creature II will appear (and set FOUNDSCROLL=1) sl2_scroll_trig
Tucked away in one of the bookshelves is a worn scroll of some interest.
    1. >StartAction<[Quietly pocket the scroll.]>/Start< sl2_scroll_act1
    2. >StartAction<[Point out the scroll to everyone.]>/Start< Hey, this looks valuable! sl2_scroll_act2

  12. Master Bedroom
This bedroom sports a gaudy masculine style.
    A locked chest contains 100gp.

  13. Guest Bedroom
This appears to be a guest bedroom. Based on some of the clothes peeking out of a drawer, a lady is currently in residence.
Hidden in a dresser is the following letter:
    Dearest Priscilla,
I've found these last few weeks unimaginably pleasurable. Unfortunately, the duties of the office call, and I find I cannot be destracted. Please find new lodgings at your earliest convenience.
    Yours,
    Menos

  14. Wine Cellar
Musty barrels and wine racks fill this wine cellar. Quite a few expensive labels are present (8 bottles of 10gp each).
    BRANDYWINE:
(Silver Marches) A fine but weak wine made mostly in the Silver Marches and is small pockets of Faeron, this redish wine has a country taste to it and is served throughout the Sword Coast and the North but is not known elsewhere.

    WINTER WINE:
(Neverwinter, the Sword Coast) A common white wine made in the North and sold in other cold climates. This surprisingly strong tasting (although not quite effecting) wine is often drunk by nobility but can be found in smaller taverns in the North, Sword Coast, Dales, Cormyr, Moonsea and the Vast.

    BERDUSKIAN DARK WINE:
(Berdusk, the Sword Coast) This black wine is known throughout Faeron and served in the Sword Coast, the North, Cormyr, Sembia, Amn, Tethyr and even known to have appeared in Calimshar.

  15. Guard Room
The hidden passage leads to this rough-hewn chamber.
Guard1: "Well, I was originally stationed in Darkhold, but I found my allergies acting up."
Guard2: "Huh. You'd think the lowlands would have worse pollen."
Guard1: "It wasn't the pollen, but the mold. Terribly moldy in those damp castles."
Guard2: "Not that this secret underground hideout is much better."
    Guard1: "True."
Two guards are here and will attack on sight. They carry longswords, chain mail, and 15gp.

  16. Barracks
This room is evidently a soldier's barracks.
This room contains a number of soldiers, depending on the party's level.

  17. Captain's Room
This room holds Captain Mershil and a number of soldiers, depending on the party's level. The Captain carries a +1 longsword, the Drunken Juggler:
This longsword was the centerpiece of a juggling act in ages long ago. The Juggler, whose name is now lost, would juggle increasingly larger pieces of fruit. With great flourish, the blade would be drawn and the fruit skewered.
One night, the juggler was doing his act after drinking a bit too much. The blade slipped and a patron was killed. The juggler's punishment was to be beheaded by his own blade, which was then sold at auction to the highest bidder.

Mershil: So, it seems our hidden stronghold has been breached. Who are you that is so bold to cross the Zhentarim?
    1. My name is <FirstName> [LastName]. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
What? Very well, I tire of you and your riddles. Let's get on with it. (attacks) sl2_mershil_act1
    2. So, you admit to being an agent of the Zhentarim? What are you doing in this town?
I have no intention of revealing our plans to you.
    1. Come now, you're sure to defeat us. It's traditional to gloat over your enemy's stupidity. Just a tidbit or two?
(Persuasion DC20 succeeds) Very well. I am a Zhentarim agent who orchestrated the new mayor's election. Our alliance with the Cyricists has gone well, and we soon plan on disposing of the last of our opponents. If it weren't for you meddling kids, we would have gotten away with it too. (+100xp, attacks) sl2_mershil_con1 sl2_mershil_act2
(Persuasion DC20 fails) I am not a fool. Let us dispatch with you quickly. (attacks) sl2_mershil_act1
    3. Oops. I guess this isn't part of the wine cellar. I'll be going now.
    Not so fast! (attacks) sl2_mershil_act1

A chest holds 200gp and a letter (MershilLetter):
    Mershil,
You have done excellent work in establishing a foothold at Hill's Edge. Continue and you shall be well rewarded. You may continue to enlist in the aid of the Fist of the Future, but do not trust them. Quincel's goals are not ours.
    -Lord Orgauth

    Journal entry (upon Mershil's death):
While you have succeeded in stopping a dangerous Zhentarim incursion into Hill's Edge, it is unclear why dead bodies were brought to this village. Perhaps the Fist of the Future and the Cyricists should be paid a visit.

Anera (upon Mershil's death AND MAPFOUND=0): While I believe we have stopped a dangerous foe today, the imbalance I spoke of earlier is not here, but rather at the Cyric temple. We should go there next.

  18. Armory
A number of fine weapons and armor can be found lining the walls of this room.
Light Crossbow (x2), Heavy Crossbow, Bolts (x60), Rapier, Longsword (x3), Shortsword (x2), Large Shield (x4), Scale Mail (x3), Chain Mail, Banded Mail. Also, a masterwork Scimitar is here.
