Enter the Shadow
As soon as the players enter this area, they will be met by Phthta with Jered by her side.

Phthta: Well, well. It appears as if the brave adventurers have finally found their long-lost friend.
1. Yes, we have, and now you shall die!
Yes, little ones. I shall die, but not today.
2. We ask that you release Jered to us.
Patience, little ones. First you must answer my questions.
Phthta: Why have you come for this one?
1. He is unique, and thus valuable to us.
He is indeed valuable to me, though not while in my posession. .
2. Jered is an innocent, and deserves none of what has happened to him.
I assure you, his innocence is not complete. The taint of a god rests within him. One who has killed untold numbers of innocents.
3. I believe he holds the key to what I seek.
Yes. He is the piece of the key, but he himself must be unlocked. It will become apparent soon.
4. I will not answer your questions.
Rethink this position, as I shall reward the answers you give.
Phthta: What do you know about Jered's past?
1. He was raised by Tal'Nash.
More than that, he is the embodiment of Jergal's avatar. His powers are unknown and mysterious.
2. He is somehow tied to Jergal, the old god of the dead.
Yes, that is true. A god's avatar reborn, with powers unknown and mysterious.
3. I know little.
How could you not see that Jered is not all he seems? He is a god's avatar reborn. Fragments of the god's power remain in him still.
4. I refuse to answer.
You must trust me if you wish to understand your role in this conflict. Nothing offered, nothing gained.
Phthta: And what do you know of Orrick?
1. He seeks Jered for some reason.
Yes. To study or kill him, I know not. Jered has hidden strengths that may prove to be Orrick's undoing.
2. I think he is trying to raise an undead army.
Yes. His power grows to threaten even mine. Jered holds the key that will stop him.
3. I've never heard of him.
Then I let you know that he will destroy Jered to eliminate the threat to his budding empire, and you as well if you stand in his way.
Phthta: What do you know of the Source?
1. It gives Orrick his power.
2. The undead here are strangely affected by it.
3. I have no idea.
The Source is tied to the death of Jergal's avatar. It is a gateway into a fragment of the god's mind. It allows Orrick to control many more undead than he could otherwise, as well as affecting other undead in the area.
1. So, what do you want from us?
2. That's all been educational, but can we have Jered now?
Phthta: Orrick is growing in power. My scrying has foretold my own death if I take no action to stop him. Only one recourse remains so that I might survive. I must bring Jered and the Source together.
1. What do you expect us to do?
2. That doesn't sound like such a good idea.
3. What will happen then?
Phthta: I know not should be done once that occurs. I only know the two must come together. And you, my friend, will make that happen.
1. It sounds like I have little choice in the matter.
2. Wait! What do I get out of this?
3. Very well, I am ready.
Phthta: The time for talk has ended. You will appear in a side cavern next to the Source. You go with my blessing.
Phthta will cast Heal and Bless on the party members, then teleport them.

Jered: [FirstName], thank you for coming for me.
1. Are you okay? What did Phthta do to you?
She . . . made me remember. It was painful, but I now see pieces of my former life. I think I know how to defeat Orrick now.
1. So, what's the plan?
The Source is not a normal Gate, but a broken fragment of Jergal's mind. Orrick uses it's twisted power for his purposes. We must somehow heal it.
1. You can heal a god?
No, I can get us in there. It will be up to you to find how to repair him.
2. Right. Great plan.
2. What exactly did you remember?
Jergal's avatar, Orn, is part of me, just as Jergal was part of him. I remember flashes of pain and joy, thousands of dead. Standing in judgement before endless souls.
1. It sounds terrible.
There is a beauty to it too. I feel I have aged a lifetime in the last few days.
2. Perhaps we should talk of the present.
2. The things that Phthta said, are they true?
Yes, I see that now. I can sense the stirrings of a dead god within me. It is a terrible, exhaulting feeling.
3. Prepare yourself for battle. We must fight now.

Anera (if ANERACROMANCE is present): Wait, [FirstName], I must speak with you.
1. What is it?
2. There is no time, Anera. We must prepare for battle now.
Anera: I must know. Will you help me do what I must to restore the balance, though our choices may be hard?
1. I can't promise anything, Anera. I take each situation as it comes.
Then we may find ourselves on opposite sides of this battle. I pray that it will not come to pass.
2. Sure, Anera. Sure.
You do not sound so sure yourself. I must follow my vows, [FirstName].
3. I give you my vow that it shall be done.
I am greatly relieved. You assurance gives me the strength that I need.

When the party emerges into the room, Jered will say: To the Source, quickly! and head towards the center of the room.
An encounter with undead is along the way.
Anera will say: Kelemvor, give me strength! and casts Divine Favor on herself.
When the party arrives at the Source, Jered will say: Protect me my friends! I must break through Orrick's defenses.
An undead mage will cast Fog Cloud, Cause Fear, then Color Spray. Other undead protect him.
Anera will call out: The undead mage! Get him!
After the mage dies, skeletons will begin coming out of the three open doors.
Anera: They're coming through the doors! We must seal them quickly!
Skeletons will spawn at the 3 open entrances, then one per minute until the doors are sealed.
Anera: Jered? Are you done yet?
Jered: Just a few more moments . . .

The two double-doors will open and Orrick will appear. He is unkillable.

Orrick: Stay back from that portal or I shall remove you myself!
He will cast Stoneskin, Globe of Invulnerability, and then cast Raise Dead each turn.
There will be a pause of several seconds, then the gateway will change color.
Jered: Quickly! Into the portal!
Orrick: Fools! You'll be destroyed!
Orrick will cast Power Word, Kill on each of the NPCs except Anera. Entering the portal ends the module.
