Far to the west near Ruathym lies the island of Axgard. Long ago, it was home to the sea-dwarves who came in search of fresh ores under the Xardmount. But something was found best left undisturbed and the dwarves of Keep Rethgaard passed from memory.

In recent times humans have come and resettled the northern islands. Though much of Rethgaard is difficult to reach, these newcomers have occupied part of the keep and built more comfortable homes nearby. The people of Rethgaard are traders, villagers, and perhaps even pirates when the opportunity presents itself. Several years ago, all of Ruathym was drawn into war with Luskan and the people of Rethgaard fared most terribly. The council initially sided with Luskan, but betrayal was their reward and the town was looted without mercy.

Now Rethgaard is a quiet town, filled with once-proud people who have known of better times. Yet something stirs again under Keep Rethgaard. Strange lights are seen at night, dancing near the tower windows. Perhaps the Pit of Stars has opened once again.
